March 8 - 🌟 International Women's Day: Celebrating Her-story, Sass, and Strength 🌟
💡 Who Created International Women's Day and Why?
Let’s rewind to March 8, 1909, in New York City, where the first National Woman's Day was celebrated, thanks to the Socialist Party of America (yes, they had progressive party vibes). Inspired by a strike of women garment workers demanding better pay and working conditions, this celebration was all about raising voices and demanding rights—in style, of course.
Fast forward to 1910, when Clara Zetkin, a German activist, proposed the idea of an International Women's Day at the International Conference of Working Women in Copenhagen. (Shoutout to Clara for starting a global trend before hashtags were a thing.)
By 1911, Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland were on board, and the movement kept growing. In 1975, the United Nations made it official. Yep, it’s got the UN’s stamp of approval.
🌍 Why Celebrate International Women's Day?
Because women run the world. Beyoncé said it; we believe it.
To honor trailblazers. From Marie Curie to Malala, history is packed with women who rewrote the rules.
To celebrate everyday heroes. Teachers, nurses, scientists, moms—doing it all, every single day.
To push for progress. Equal pay? Representation? We’re still working on it.
Because smashing the patriarchy never goes out of style. 💅
