10 Grammar Mistakes That Give Us the Ick
Because nothing kills a vibe faster than a misplaced apostrophe or a their/they’re/there disaster. Here are the grammar mistakes that make us want to throw a red pen across the room:
1. Your vs. You’re
"Your amazing."
No. No, I’m not. You’re amazing. You’re as in you are. Get it right. Get it together.
2. There, Their, and They’re Confusion
"Their going to the store over there with there friends."
That sentence just aged me 10 years. Please… for the sake of our sanity, they’re = they are. Their = ownership. There = a place. It’s not that deep.
3. Its vs. It’s
"The cat licked it’s paw."
It’s = it is. Its = belonging to it. The apostrophe doesn’t mean ‘fancy.’ Stop.
4. Alot
There is no alot. Never was. Never will be. It’s a lot. Two words. Always. Forever. Period.
5. Could of, Should of, Would of
"I could of done that."
Oh, you could have avoided this cringe if you paid attention. Have, not of. The “ick” is strong with this one.
6. Misusing Literally
"I literally died laughing."
Did you? Are you a ghost now? Because unless paramedics were involved, you meant figuratively. Dramatic much?
7. Incorrect Plural Apostrophes
"Banana’s for sale!"
Bananas. Just bananas. No apostrophe needed unless the banana owns something (which would be a whole other problem).
8. Run-On Sentences That Never End
"So I went to the store and I saw my friend and then we got coffee and it was great and..."
BREATHE. Punctuation exists. Try it sometime. Commas, semicolons, and periods are free.
9. Me vs. I
"Me and Sarah went to the movies."
It’s Sarah and I—unless you want to sound like a five-year-old describing their weekend. Respect yourself.
10. Than vs. Then
"I’d rather eat dirt then apologize."
First of all, calm down. Second, it’s than for comparisons (then is for time). If you’re going to be dramatic, at least be grammatically correct.
✨ Bonus Ick: Loose vs. Lose
"Don’t loose your mind over grammar!"
Too late. We already did. Loose = not tight. Lose = not winning. Honestly, this one hurts.
